patch cables / pigtails
Pigtail cables, also known as patch cables, are necessary for networking and data transmission. They serve as a bridge to connect different networking devices, such as routers, switches and servers, ensuring seam- free data flow. In general the cables are outfitted with a connector on each end, and are easy to install flexible by design. As far as technology goes, modern connectors include RJ45, LC, SC and FC type units that meet the needs of fiber optic or Ethernet systems. They also have high bandwidth (bandwidth refers to how much data the cable can handle), low signal attenuation (signal attenuation means the loss of power as a signal travels down the length of an electrical line), and excellent resistance to interference. Patch cables or pigtails have applications in data centers, telecommunications networks, and as part of home networking systems where fast reliable connectivity is crucial.
